Community Voices

The heart of MPDA is the people we serve. Every story shared is a reflection of the connections we’ve built, the challenges we’ve overcome together, and the positive change we strive for every day. Here, you can read first-hand experiences from families, young people, and community members who’ve taken part in our programmes, used our services, or worked alongside us. Their words inspire us, guide us, and remind us why we do what we do.

"My journey in MPDA has been an amazing cycle. I first came to MPDA as a mum, for support with my children. Once my youngest was in school I found myself lost and stuck in the house.

A friend asked me to join and I wasn’t sure as I had no children with me during the day. As the weeks went on, I attended more and more groups which helped my confidence.

I am now a full-time volunteer and attend all the groups we have. It’s amazing to work with as young as newborn and up to our older generation.."

"The volunteer team at the MPDA hub run the Friday Foodbank outreach and provide a listening ear and signposting for all foodbank clients. We’re fortunate to also have Community Advice present, offering benefits support, claims and appeals guidance — sometimes resulting in people no longer needing the foodbank. MPDA’s manager Kim Dunne is always eager to support training and often hosts these events. Being located in the heart of Ballycraigy means we’re able to help families right at their doorstep. It’s a vital service, and we’re proud to work alongside MPDA to make it happen."

"Myself and my family have been attending MPDA for around 6 years when it was just a mums and tots group. When the hub opened in 2021 we were delighted with extra groups. Some of our favourites are the Monday morning friendship group, the youth group, after schools and our Friday morning drop-in / wellbeing. Attending these groups lets us meet a variety of different people and participate in different activities. Alongside the groups, I have had many opportunities to complete courses such as first aid, safeguarding, OCNs and an access course for university. MPDA has changed our lives in the best possible way!"
